SUMMARY

OF NOVEMBER 17, 2020, TELECONFERENCE MEETING WITH ENTERGY OPERATIONS, INC. TO DISCUSS THE FORTHCOMING SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE CONCERNING GENERIC LETTER 2004-02 FOR ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNITS 1 AND 2 (EPID L-2020-LRM-0105)

On November 17, 2020, a Category 1 public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Entergy Operations, Inc. (the licensee) via teleconference. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the licensees forthcoming supplemental response concerning Generic Letter (GL) 2004-02, Potential Impact of Debris Blockage on Emergency Recirculation During Design Basis Accidents at Pressurized-Water Reactors, for Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO), Units 1 and 2. The meeting notice and agenda dated November 2, 2020, are available in NRCs Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) under Accession No. ML20307A516. A list of attendees is provided in the enclosure.

The licensee presented information (ADAMS Accession No. ML20315A158) regarding its forthcoming supplemental submittal concerning GL 2004-02. The presentation included an overview of the sump strainers, the current GL 2004-02 resolution status, and an overview of the licensees approach for resolving in-vessel downstream effects. The licensee stated that it expects to submit the GL 2004-02 supplement in December of 2020.

The NRC staff queried the licensee throughout the meeting. The NRC staff requested that the licensee include the following information in its submittal to facilitate an efficient review:

The area of the test strainer and batch sizes Identification of the percent power of decay heat at sump switchover A description or identification of the chemical effects tests from WCAP-17788, Comprehensive Analysis and Test Program for GSI [Generic Safety Issue]-191 Closure (PA-SEE-1090) (ADAMS Accession No. ML20010F181) applicable to ANO The NRC staff did not make any regulatory decisions or commitments at the meeting. One member of the public participated in the meeting but did not have any questions or comments.
