i By letter dated October 29, 1996, you requested approval for an alternative to the examination requirement of reactor vessel shell weld, pursuant to the provisions of 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(6)(ii)(A)(5) for Hatch Unit 2.

The staff has reviewed your submittal and finds that your alternative to the examination requirement of the reactor vessel shell weld is acceptable as discussed in the enclosed safety evaluation.
