Georgia Tech Research Reactor Decommissioning Program Bi-Monthly Status Report for August-September 1998 -

A. General The GTRR remains under a safe shutdown condition. The reactor facility is in compliance with its license conditions and current technical specifications (10CFR50.51(b)). i B. Activities for the Months of August and September 1998

1. The draft Decommissioning Plan, Characterization Report, and Letter of Financial Intent were submitted to USNRC on July 6,1998, and are under review.

2. A meeting took place on September 11,1998, between Georgia Tech and Ms. Glenn Carroll, representing the organization " Georgians Against Nuclear Energy (GANE)". The meeting was to share information regarding the GTRR decommissioning program. The meeting was cordial and positive. To our knowledge, there was no media coverage resulting from this meeting.  !

C. Planned Activities in October and November I

1. Respond to USNRC inquiries regarding the Decommissioning Plan.

2. Respond to potential decommissioning contractors who request information and informal ,

site visits. i

3. Begin preparation of contract documents for award of a decommissioning contract. ,
