Dear Mr. Collins:

The original SCD #37 involved a corrosion-generated error in the RCS T-cold signal. The C-E recommended corrective action involved silver-soldering the RTD leads at the terminal strip. Ebasco Design Engineers studied the problem along with the engineers preparing responses to NUREG 0660 "NRC Action Plan Developed As A Result of the TMI-2 Accident" and USNRC Regulatory Guide 1.97

" Instrumentation for Light Water Cooled Nuclear Power Plants to Assess Plant and Environ-Conditions During and Following An Accident." The latter document (1) required a restudy of the original design as to require dual RTD sensors to fit the original C-E built signal RTD sensor thermowelds, (2) required an industry review to find and QA-qualify a vendor of dual RTD sensors. (3) rey-uired purchasing of dual RTD sensors. At the present time, there is a promised delivery date in April, 1983 on the dual RTD sensors.

As a result of the impact of NUREG-0660 and Regulatory Guide 1.97 on the corrective action, submittal of a final report will be delayed until May 27, 1983.

Very truly yours, NH4 cat L. V. Maurin LVM/ MAL:keh /f lEh*iB8!?agssgg, PDR Y
