Dear Mr. Keppler:

This letter serves as the interim report on the potential significant deficiency regarding direct indication or annunciation in the control room in the event of loss of 120 Volt AC/24 Volt DC power supply. Mr. R. Knop of your of fice was notified on May 8,1984, by Mr. T. A. Boss of The Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company (CEI) that this problem was being evaluated per our Deviation Analysis Report 183. This potential deficiency was identified as a result of the safety system functional capability review performed for (II by GDS. Associates.

This report contains a description of the deficiency, the corrective action being pursued, and the planned date for our next report.

Description of Deficiency The GDS Associates' review identified equipment / instrumentation in three systems (M23, Motor Control Center and Switchgcar Area HVAC; P47, Control Complex Chillers; and M17, Containment Vacuum Relief) for which control room annunciation of the loss of 24 Volt DC power was not provided.

Mr. Jtres G. Keppler June 7, 1984 Corrective Action A study is being performed to identify all loads on 24 Volt DC Safety-Related Power Supplies and existing alarms. .This review will determine the need for annunciation on loss of 24 Volt DC Safety-Related Power Supplies.

We will submit our next report on this subject on or before September 14, 1984.
