20555

Dear Sir:

On February 19, 1986, Transamerica Delaval notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that a potential defect existed with a K-1 Relay in the generator voltage regulator.

This relay is a component of a DSR or DSRV Standby Diesel Generator.

Our letter stated that the subject relay had been environmentally qualified to operate in a range of 100 - 140 VDC.

This remains true for relays supplied to the following sites:

Long Island; Shoreham Carolina Power; Shearon Harris Texas Utilities; Commanche Peak TVA; Hartsville, Phipps Bend We have recently received information from the supplier of the voltage regulator for the Cleveland Electric, Perry Site.

We are advised that the DC voltage rating range in this case is 100 - 137.5 VDC.

The Perry specification requires operation in a range of 90 - 142 VDC.

As pointed out in our February 19 letter, the K-1 relay may not operate properly outside of its range adversely affecting generator output.

Corrective action at the Perry Site must take into account the equipment operating range of' 100 - 137.5 VDC.

A copy of this letter will be forwarded to all of the sites affected by our original notification.

Ver trul

yours, k~
