U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Comission Washington, D.C. 20555 -

Attn: Document Control Desk RE: Docket No. 50-148 i Facility Operating License No. R-78

Dear Director:

The University of Kansas is in the process of preparing a decommissioning plan for our nuclear facility. We cannot complete the plan prior to the deadline of July 27 because of a delay in our receiving concrete shield isotopic analyses from the laboratory. The cost of decommissioning will be no more than $500,000 and the University of Kansas will be fiscally responsible ,

for the decommissioning. The cost estimate will be adjusted according to 10CFR 50.75(c)(2) as necessary. Since the University is a state agency, the funds for decommissioning will have to be appropriated through a budget request submitted to the State Legislature.
