CENTRAL FILES PDR:HQ RADIATION SAFETY SERVICE THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS Y yg Lawrence, Konsos 66045 Nuclear Recctor Center October 23, 1979 Karl V. Seyfrit Director U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region IV 611 Ryan Plaza Drive, Suite 1000 Arlington, Texas 76012

Dear Mr. Seyfrit:

In response to the IE Bulletin No. 79-19 and Docket No. 50-148, we wish to indien.te that we do not generate wastes of the type which require disposal by ourial. Our disposal is either by decay (short-lived isotopes) or by sanitary sewer at levels which are much below the values specified in 10 CFR 20.303.

Thus the answec is "no" for questions 1-3 with the understanding that this means that none of our wastes are disposed of via burial.

On this basis, no further action need be taken.

Sincerely yours, Russ Mesler Reactor Supervisor
