ANALYSIS OF ACTIVATION PRODUCTS IN THE THERMAL COLUMN' The' staff has reviewed.your proposed experiment to analyze the activation products in the reactor thermal: column structure of the University of Kansas (UK) Research Reactor, submitted by letter dated September 13, 1987. This experiment is being performed' to gather data that will help develop the decommissioning plan for the reactor.

The staff has no objection to your plan if upon review by your Nuclear Reactor Committee it is determined that the plan is consistent with the requirements p of your Technical Specifications and.the ALARA (as low as reasonably s achievable) principle. Please note that section 5.1 of your Technical Specifications- stipulates the condition the reactor must be in to prevent unauthorized access.
