Suite 3100 Atlanta, Georgia 30303

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

Alabama Power Cmpany subnits the following in response to I.E. Bulletin 79-24 for Farley Nuclear Plant.

Unit-1: A review was mnducted to determine if adequate pro-tective measures were taken to assure that process, instrument, and sampling lines associated with safety systems do not freeze during extr eely cold weather.

All safety-related process, instrument and sampling lines were determined to have adequate freeze protection with the possible exception of ten (10) plant service water instrumentation lines located in outside service water valve boxes. These instrument lines have no heat tracing but are heated indirectly by FW notor heaters located within the valve boxes. No freezing has occurred during tw years of operation. An engineering evaluation has been initiated to determine if additional freeze pro-tection provisions are required. If additional freeze protection is determined to be required, it will be in-stalled on an expedital basis.
