Your letter of February 4,1980 to Alabam, Power Ocxrpany stated that the inspection program for ASME (bde Class 1, 2, and 3 ccxuponents should be in accordance with the revised rules in 10GR50, Section 50.55a, paragraph (g). 'Ihis letter requested information concerning the preservice and inservi inspection programs and provided guidance regarding the subnittal of these prcy. .s.

'Ibe preservice inspection program for Farley Unit 2 is described in Section 5.2.8 of the FSAR. 'Ihe Unit 2 preservice inspection program was orig:Lnally based on the 1971 Edition through Winter 1971 Addenda of Section XI for ASME Code Class 1 cxmponents and the 1971 Edition through Winter 1972 addenda of Section XI for ASFE Code Class 2 crrponents. However, in con-sideration of the updating requirements of 10GR50.55a, (g), the Unit 2 preservice inspection program for Class 1 and 2 c::rponents was revised in ESAR Amendment 69 dated Ppril 28, 1978 with the intent to meet, as much as practical, the requirenents of the 1974 Edition of Section XI though Sumner 1975 Addenda. Relief frcxn the inspection regtdrenents of Section XI is requested in the ytwimu where these inspectic.. requirements have been detennined to be inpractical. hhere relief is requested, specific in-formation is provided which identifies the applicable code requirenent, justification for the relief request, ard inspection method to be used as 8o031 90636

An updated inservice inspection program for thit 2 is still under development and will be subnitted to the NBC for review and approval approximately six months prior to ccxtmercial operation in accordance with the requirements of 10CFR50.55a,(g) . 'Ihe informaticn contained in this subnittal will be based on the guidance provided in your letter of February 4, 1980.
