During the performance of an operational surveillance test on the high head safety injection pump (CH-P-lCl, it was determined that the pump's discharge check valve did not reseat. When the pump being tested was shut down and another pump restarted, the now running pump developed only 1500 psig. After review of the system diagrams and the observed conditions. [CH-P-lC] was removed from service and isolated for maintenance. The valve was removed from the system and was found to be bound such that it would not reseat. The problem with these valves is also of such a random nature that it is impossible to predict when any will fail. An engineering review of the problem is in progress.
