Dear Mr.Youngblood:

This letter is provided in response to your letter dated April 27, 1983, in which you requested information on proposed modifications to the Automatic Depress-urization System (ADS)logic for the Perry Nuclear Power Plant (PNPP), Units 1 and 2.We have evaluated the BWR Owner's Group ADS logic modification options, found to be acceptable by the NRC staff. We have decided to implement the option consisting of the removal of the high drywell pressure trip in conjuction with the addition of a manual switch which inhibits ADS actuation.

This modification will be implemented before startup after the first refueling outage. The manual inhibit switch will be keylocked and located near the existing logic reset switch on the control room panel (H13-P601).

The switch will be included into the ADS inoperative and bypass indication system to alarm whenever it is not in the normal position. This will provide continuous surveillance of the switch. In addition, the use of the manual inhibit switch will be addressed in the Perry specific Plant Emergency Instructions.
