SUMMARY

OF DECEMBER 12, 2007, MEETING TO DISCUSS UPCOMINGLICENSE AMENDMENT REQUEST (LAR) FOR DIGITAL UPGRADE TO THE REACTOR PROTECTIVE SYSTEM (RPS) AND ENGINEERED SAFEGUARDS PROTECTIVE SYSTEM (ESPS) (TAC NOS. MD2471, MD2472, AND MD2473)On December 12, 2007, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory (NRC) met with Duke (the licensee) todiscuss the upcoming LAR for a digital upgrade to RPS/ESPS at Oconee. The handouts provided by the licensee during the meeting are available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System under accession number ML073470813. Enclosed is a list of the meeting attendees.The licensee is planning to submit the LAR by January 31, 2008. The licensee proposed tohave the supporting technical documents available to the NRC staff, but not submit these documents on the docket. The NRC staff stated that it would provide to the licensee a list of the technical documents, based on the ongoing Digital Instrumentation and Control Steering Committee efforts, that should be submitted on the docket along with the LAR.The licensee requested that the amendments be issued by January 31, 2009. The NRC staffstated that this type of review would be expected to take about 12 to 15 months, but the NRC staff will attempt to complete its review and issue the amendments on the schedule requested by the licensee./RA by RJervey/Leonard N.
