SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF AUGUST 6, 2020, TELECONFERENCE WITH INDIANA MICHIGAN POWER COMPANY REGARDING DONALD C. COOK NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT NO. 2 (EPID L-2020-LRM-0070)

On August 6, 2020, a Category I public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Indiana Michigan Power Company (the licensee) via teleconference. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss planned license amendment requests for the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant (CNP), Unit No. 2, related to delaying the steam generator eddy current testing scheduled to be performed during the 2021 spring refueling outage. The meeting notice and agenda dated July 28, 2020, are available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML20210M193. A list of attendees is enclosed.

The licensee indicated that potential license amendments would be needed to delay the steam generator eddy current testing frequency by one refueling cycle. The license cited that the basis for the potential amendments would be the forecasted resurgence on the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections in the spring. With this forecast, CNP is attempting to limit the length of the outage in order to limit the opportunity for the spread of COVID-19 to essential plant workers. The NRC staff recommended that the licensee wait until December 2020 prior to submitting such an amendment so that the potential COVID-19 impact could be assessed.

One member of the public participated in the meeting. No regulatory decisions were made at this meeting.

Please direct any inquiries to me at 301-415-2855, or Scott.Wall@nrc.gov.

/RA/
