OF THE MAY 8, 2007, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE BYRON STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2, END-OF-CYCLE PLANT PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On May 8, 2007, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Byron Station Training Center in Byron, IL. The meeting was between NRC Region III management and Exelon Generation Company management to discuss the NRCs assessment of the safety performance of Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, for the period from January 1 through December 31, 2006. The meeting notice and NRC presentation can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) as ML071100250 and ML071290248, respectively. A list of principal NRC and licensee meeting participants can be found in the Enclosure.
The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRCs Reactor Oversight Program (ROP), national ROP results, and the Action Matrix in general. This was followed by a discussion of the NRCs assessment of the performance of Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, in calendar year 2006, which was documented in the March 2, 2007, end-of-cycle assessment letter, as ML070610211. As part of this regulatory performance meeting, Exelon briefly responded to the NRCs assessment. At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials.
