PLANT SHUTDOWN DUE TO MAIN TURBINE DRAIN LItlE LEAK About 11:25 a.m. on April 24, a steam leak was identified on a drain line from its associated main turbine control valve header. The leak appears to be a failed weld at a socket joint. Several failures had occurred on these lines in October 1985; but the lines had been modified since then.
In order to make repairs the licensee reduced power from 56*4 and took the turbine generator off the grid to isolate the steam supply to the drain line.                    Reactor power is being maintained at 5-10*;. The repairs are expected to take about 8 hours to complete.
However, the generator may be kept off line longer for vendor evaluation of higher than normal vibration that had been noted on the generator exciter bearings.
This preliminary notification is issued for information only and the TMI-1 resident staff is following up onsite.
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has been notified.
