ALLEGATIONS OF SLEEPING ON SHIFT On July 9,1987, the NRC and General Public Utilities Nuclear (GPUN), the operator of TMI-2, received an anonymous allegation that a shift supervisor was seen on more than one occasion to be sleeping on shift at TMI-2. The utility had received a previous alleghtion regarding the same individual and issue, but an internal investigation conducted by the licensee did not substantiate the allegation, GPUN informed the NRC that they have recently identified make shift beds at the facility and over.the past few months terminated the employment of three contract employees for sleeping onsite. The' beds have been dismantled.

The NRC Resident inspectors have been monitoring activities onsite. The NRC conducted random off-shift inspections on July 9-10, with no abnormal conditions noted. . A team from NRC Region I was dispatched to the site today to review this matter and the results of licensee investigations.

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has been informed.
