4.7.10.1 The Noninterruptible Control Air Systen shall be denonstrate5 CPERABLE:
- a. At least once per 31 days by verifying that the
,. cross-tie valves and each valve . (nanual, power-operata3 or automatic) required for proper operation.of the.
Control Air Coupressors, Aftercoolers, Filter and Dehydration Units, and associated control '
t instrumentation that is not locked, sealed, or otherwise '
secured in position, is in its correct position.
- b. At least once per '18 nonths by verifying that each .
automatic valve which isolates the NIAS systen subsystem.
from nonsafety grade air systens actuates to its ;
isolation position on each of the following autanatic :l actuation test signals:
- 1. Station Air Supply low pressure
- 2. NIAS Control Air header low pressure
- 3. Loss of offsite power
- c. At least once per 18 nonths by verifying = that each I control Air Conpressor capacity is greater than or equal.
to 100 scfm.
- d. At least once per 18 months by verifying that each "
Control Air Conpressor automatically starts on each of the following automatic actuation test signals:
- 1. NIAS' Control Air Header low pressure.

' 3/4.7 PLANT SYSTEMS 4 T BARPA 3/4.7.10 NONIhrumuPrmiR CONTML AIR SYSTEM The CPEIRBILIW of the noninterruptible-control air syste, which.
provides a safety grade. back up~. control air source, is required to ,
support the operation of safety-related equipment during normal and i accident conditions. If a Control Air Coupressor, Aftercooler,; !
Dehydration / Filter Unit or associated control' instrumentation becomes
- inoperable, the two subsystems _ can be cross-tied and the control air requirements satisfied by a single compressor. Since a safety gra3e -
back up control air supply is available, components utilizing the NIAS "
are not made inoperable from the ACTION of cross-tieing the two - i subsystems. Studies using the Probabilistic Risk' Assessment methodology have shown that cross-tieing-the NIAS subsystems poses a i smaller risk than operation with no safety grade back up-control air i for- one division.
l If a noninterruptible control air syste subsystem becomes otherwise . l L inoperable, the NIAS subsystem cross-tie nust be closed to assure -
CPEPABILIW of the remaining NIAS subsystem and the associated (
safety-related equipment.. The ACTIONS specified in this situation' {
carry out the ACTIONS for the resulting inoperabilities due to the = !
loss of control air to equipnent or instrument isolation valves.
