Docket No. 50-142 o (Proposed Renewal of Facility License)

Dear Administrative Judges:

I am responding to Ms. Woodhead's letter of October 26, 1984, to fir. Hirsch which stated that the Board wished to be informed, prior to November 1st, of the results of any negotiations among the parties concerning CBG's proposed conditions of withdrawal.

In her September 28th letter to Mr. Hirsch, Ms. Woodhead referred to the fact that on September 6th Mr. Hirsch had proposed to arrange a conference call among the parties to discuss such matters.

For your information, neither I nor any of the other attorneys for the, University have been contacted by CBG inviting the discussions suggested by Ms. Woodhead in her two letters. Apparently, CBG has decided not to arrange the conference call it first proposed.

In any event, University's position concerning the appropriate conditions for withdrawal of its license renewal application are unchanged from the position expressed in its pleadings.

Respecting progress on the fuel shipment, please be advised that UCLA has secured the use of suitable shipping casks and has made the other arrangements necessary to ship its remaining nuclear fuel.

The facility designated by the Department of Energy to receive the fuel for reprocessing, Idaho Chemical Processing Plant (ICPP), has agreed to accept the fuel shipment sometime before May,1985, but so far has declined to accept the fuel as soon as we would like to ship it.
