Dear Mr. Adams:
Since the issuance of the NRC Order dated July 28,1989 authorizing Phase 11 decommissioning of the old reactor facility, there have been some changes in the organizational structure at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) and the Radiation Safety Office. This letter presents the changes for your information and use.
The Radiation Safety Office is now a division of the Office of Environment, llealth and Safety (EH&S), of.which I am the Director. I report directly to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Community Safety.110 wever, the Radiation Safety Officer remains the point of contact for this decommissioning. James E. McLaughlin, the then Radiation Safety Officer has retired.. Ilis replacement, Karen S. Langley has recently left the University and the Alternate Radiation Safety Officer, Joseph M. Takahashi will serve as her replacement until a new Radiation Safety Officer is on board.
There is no longer an Executive Officer for the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
The position has been changed to an Administrative Officer and Lydia Kowalski has filled the position. Also, there is _no NEL facility supervisor.
UCLA intends to hire a full-time Radiological Engineer as a decommissioning consultant and project manager to be present at the site while work is in progress. Such a consultant shall have proper qualification and prior experience with reactor decommissioning. Please see the enclosed organizational chart for the current structure.
