NRC CLOSEOUT INSPECTION This letter refers to the confirmatory surveys of the UCLA Boelter Reactor Facility by Oak Ridge Institute of Science and Education (0 RISE) under NRC contract on March 10-11, 1993.
These were areas where activities authorized by NRC license R-71 had previously taken place.
Based on our review of ORISE's Final Survey Report, dated August 24, 1993, the areas surveyed appear to meet the criteria of Regulatory Guide (RG) 1.86, The
" Termination of Operating Licenses for Operating Reactors," dated 1974.
enclosed ORISE report is also being identified as NRC Inspection Report No.
50-142/93-01.
Additional correspondence providing the authorization for release of these areas can be expected from the NRC's Non-Power Reactors and Decommissioning Project Directorates office.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
