20555 In the Matter of THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA (UCLAResearchReactorl Docket No. 50-142 UC (Proposed Renewal of Facility License)
Dear Administrative Judges:
Please be advised that UCLA has completed the transfer of the irradiated fuel which had been in use in the UCLA reactor to the Department of Energy's reprocessing facility in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Due to limitations in the size of the shipping casks which were used in the transfer, the fuel was shipped in four separate shipments. The first shipment departed UCLA on November 26, 1984, end the last shipment departed on December 16, 1984, thus completing the removal of all nuclear fuel from the UCLA facility.
(OnJuly 11, 1984, we notified the Board that the unirradiated fuel in inventory at UCLA had been transferred to a DOE-designated facility.)
On December 26, 1984, a telephone message was left with a secretary of the Licensing Board informing the Board that we had received oral confirmation that the final fuel shipment had been received at the DOE-designated fuel reprocessing facility in Idaho and that we would provide written notification of that fact at such time as we received written confirmation from the Idaho facility. Although the final inventory forms confirming the transfer of fuel have not yet been received at UCLA, we do not wish to further delay this notification.
Very truly yours, f'
