Merschoff, the Regional Administrator of the Nuclear Regulatory Commissions Region IV, will hold a press conference in Richland, Wash., on Tuesday, August 24.

The conference will be begin at 4 p.m. in Energy Northwests multi-purpose facility at 3000 George Washington Way. Mr. Merschoff will discuss the readiness of WNP-2 to face the year 2000, the implementation of a new NRC evaluation process for nuclear power plants, and other topics of interest regarding nuclear power regulation.

Mr. Merschoff is a 1972 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, and earned a masters in Mechanical Engineering in 1980 at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined the NRC in 1980, working first as a Nuclear Engineer in the Office of Standards Development at headquarters in Washington, D.C., and then as Deputy Director and Director of the Division of Reactor projects for NRC Region II in Atlanta. He came to Region IV as Regional Administrator in March of 1997.
