Victor Dricks, 817-200-1128 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector at the Columbia Generating Station The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Phil Niebaum as the new senior resident inspector at the Columbia Generating Station near Richland, Washington.

Niebaum joined the NRC in 2006 as a project engineer in the Region II office in Atlanta. He served as a resident inspector at the Hatch nuclear power plant near Baxley, Georgia, at the Browns Ferry nuclear power plant near Athens, Alabama, and as senior resident inspector at the Farley nuclear power plant near Columbia, Alabama.

Before joining the NRC, he served in the U.S. Navy as a reactor operator and worked as a system engineer at Siemens Westinghouse Power Corp. Niebaum received a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Central Florida.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two resident inspectors. Niebaum joins resident inspector Amber Donley at the Columbia Generating Station. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conduct regular inspections, monitor plant operations and significant work projects, and interact with plant workers and the public.
