Victor Dricks, 817-200-1128 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Mahdi Hayes as the new senior resident inspector at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant in San Luis Obispo, California.

Hayes joined the NRCs Region IV office in 2006 as a reactor engineer in the agencys Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program. He served as the resident inspector at Columbia Generating Station from 2009 until 2013, when he became an operations engineer and operator license examiner in the agencys Region IV office in Arlington, Texas.

Prior to joining the agency, he worked as a nuclear engineer for Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. Hayes received his bachelors degree in nuclear engineering from Texas A&M University in 2005.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors.

Hayes joins resident inspector Ayesha Athar. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant work projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.
