Victor Dricks, 817-200-1128 NRC Proposes $7,000 Fine to Marian Medical Services The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has proposed a $7,000 fine to Marian Medical Services of Wildwood, Missouri, for four violations of regulatory requirements related to their licensed activities in Anchorage, Alaska.
The violations were documented in an Oct. 26 inspection report and involve the licensees handling, storage and security of radioactive materials used at a medical imaging facility formerly owned by the company, as described in a Feb. 16, NRC letter to the licensee.
NRC officials discussed the apparent findings with Marian officials on June 16 and Oct. 14.
In a written response to the NRC on Nov. 23, company officials discussed the apparent violations, their significance, their root cause, and corrective actions. Based on the information collected during the inspection and the conferences, the NRC has determined that four violations of agency requirements occurred.
The licensee has 30 days to dispute the fine or request involvement of a third-party mediator to resolve the issue.
