Victor Dricks, 817-200-1128 NRC Names New Resident Inspector at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Eli Garcia as its new resident inspector at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant in San Luis Obispo, California. He joins Senior Resident Inspector Mahdi Hayes at the plant, operated by Pacific Gas & Electric Co.
Garcia joined the NRC in 2020 as a reactor engineer in the NRCs Region I Office in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. He served as a project engineer in the Resident Inspector Development Program, acting resident inspector at the Hope Creek nuclear power plant in New Jersey, and most recently, as the resident inspector at the Salem nuclear plant in New Jersey.
Garcia holds a bachelors degree in nuclear engineering from Texas A&M University.
Elis education and training give him the qualities we look for in our resident inspectors, said NRC Region IV Administrator John Monninger. His commitment to public safety will help the NRC continue to protect the people and the environment and ensure that Diablo Canyon meets the high standards of excellence set by the agency.
Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.
