No: IV-23-008 August 15, 2023 CONTACT: Victor Dricks, 817-200-1128 NRC Names New Resident Inspector at Cooper Nuclear Power Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Geoffrey Birkemeier as its new resident inspector at the Cooper nuclear power plant in Brownville, Nebraska.
Geoffrey has the experience, training and commitment to safety that will help the NRC in carrying out its mission of protecting people and the environment and ensuring the safe operation of the Cooper nuclear power plant," said NRC Region IV Administrator John Monninger.
Birkemeier joined the NRC in 2022 as a project engineer in the Region IV office in Arlington, Texas. Before joining the agency, he was an operator at the Waterford nuclear power plant in Killona, Louisiana, and worked as a mechanical project engineer for Paragon Energy Solutions, in Fort Worth, Texas, which supplies parts and components for the nuclear power industry. He received a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Arkansas Tech University.
Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two resident inspectors. Birkemeier joins senior resident inspector Kent Chambliss at Cooper. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conduct regular inspections, monitor plant operations and significant work projects, and interact with plant workers and the public.
