No: IV-24-001 January 3, 2024 CONTACT: Victor Dricks, 817-200-1128 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector at South Texas Project Nuclear Power Plant The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected John Vera as the new senior resident inspector at the South Texas Project nuclear power plant in Bay City, Texas.

John brings 15 years of technical experience to this important role. I am confident that he will help to ensure South Texas Project operates safely and meets all the NRCs safety requirements, said NRC Region IV Administrator John Monninger.

Vera joined the NRC in 2008 as a technical reviewer. He became a project manager in 2013, then joined the NRCs Region IV office in 2018 as a project engineer in the resident inspector development program. He most recently served as the resident inspector at Wolf Creek Generating Station in Kansas.

Vera holds bachelors and masters degrees and a doctorate in civil engineering from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. He is a graduate of the NRCs Nuclear Safety Professional Development Program.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors.

Vera joins Resident Inspector Leanne Flores. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant work projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.
