INADVERTENT ACTUATION 0F SAFETY INJECTION. AND CONTAINMENT SPRi.Y -- UPDATE -

20,1990, at 9:46 a;m. (PST) an inathhertent actuation of the Safety Injection

.On November and Containment Spray systems occurred at San Onofre. Nuclear Generating Station Unit 2, g while,the plant-was operating at-100% power.,While continuing to operate, the licensee y* 'hasEcompleted visual inspections?inside the containment which did not identify any

-adverse conditions. The licensee is. developing an action plan for short 'and long tenn i fol l ow-up,,,

s Atlapproximately 1:00 p.m.j(PST) November 23, 1990, the licensee informed the Resident.

Inspector that'a' ground fault,had been detected on the neutral, lead of-one contro15 rod Tdrive mechanism.. Consequently,'the licensee has decided to shutdown Unit 2 to fix the ground ~and'will_ conduct more extensive examinations of electrical penetrations, O

junction boxes,'and the' areas inside the biological shield. The licensee expects to be ahutdown.bycapproximately 8:00 p.m. (PST), November 23, 1990.
