CHAPTER 4, " NUCLEAR CRITICALITY SAFETY" (TAC NO. L30975)

Dear Mr. Sharkey:

In accordance with your submittal dated July 10,1998, and pursuant to Part 70 of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Materials License SNM-33 is hereby amended to reflect changes and improvements in Chapter 4, " Nuclear Criticality Safety" of the license application.

Accordingly, Safety Condition S-1 has been revised to include the date of July 10,1998. All i other conditions of this license shall remain the same. )

l In your letter on June 11,1998, you committed to submit additional changes to Chapter 4 by l the end of 1999. The NRC asked for these changes in the request for additional information,

questions 1,9a, 9d,12, and 39, dated November 3,1997. These questions asked for lists, definitions, and descriptions of criticality safety terms (e.g., criticality safety controls, multiparameter controls, and safe unit) used at the site. Your proposed time to submit those changes is acceptable. However, given the substantive nature of the changes, a further j extension beyond December 31,1999, would not be appropriate.

l Enclos3d are copies of the revised Materials License SNM-33 and the Safety Evaluation Report, which includes the Categorical Exclusion determination.
