NRC INSPECTION REPORT 70-36/99-202

Dear Dr. Mr. Sharkey:

This refers to the routine, announced chemical safety inspection conducted on April 5 - April 9, 1999, at your Hematite, Missouri facility. The purpose of this inspection was to determine whether activities authorized by your license were conducted safely and in accordance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requirements. At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed with your staff.

Areas examined in the inspection are identified in the enclosed report. Within these areas, the inspection consisteu of selective examination of relevant records, interviews with plant personnel, and observation of activities in progress. Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were identified. One violation and one inspector followup item were closed.

In accordance with the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room. Should you have any questions concerning this inspection, we would be pleased to discuss them with you.
