SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE Docket No. 50-266 Unit Name Point Beach Unit 1 Date December 8, 1986 Completed By C. W. Krause Telephone 414/221-2001 Unit 1 operated at approximately 500 MWe net throughout the s period. A reactor trip occurred at 6:10 PM, November 17. The trip was a result of an instrument bus power supply interruption which occurred when the output diodes on inverter 1DY01 failed.

Unit power was administratively limited the next day due to secondary chemistry excursions resulting from the trip.

Safety-related maintenance during the period included the repair of an instrument air leak on the reactor coolant pump seal water return containment isolation valve 1AOV-313A, and adjustments to PORV discharge header snubber HS-60lR-37A.

No LERs were issued during the period.

SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE l Docket No. 50-301 Unit Name Point Beach Unit'2 Date December 8, 1986 Completed By C. W. Krause Telephone 414/221-2001 Unit 2 was shutdown-for its annual refueling for most of the period. At 5:56 AM on November-28, 1986, the reactor was taken critical. At'8:43 AM, the reactor tripped from about 1%

power due to low level in the Unit 2 "A" steam generator. At 11:45 AM of that day, several safety-related snubbers were declared-inoperable. As a result, the reactor startup was delayed until'the snubber problems could be resolved. Shortly thereafter, the startup commenced and the reactor was critical by 2:02 PM that day. The unit was placed on line at 8:44 PM on November 29 following initial criticality and core physics testing. On November 30, the generator was temporarily taken off line for overspeed testing.

Safety-related maintenance included the completion of the upflow modification which reduces the differential pressure across the baffle plates of the core barrel and the completion of the containment integrated leak rate test.

During the period, LER 86-006 was issued. This LER documents three reactor trip signals that were received during refueling outage work. The October 1986 monthly report briefly described the trip signals. The October monthly report also stated that LER 86-007 would be issued to document pressurizer pressure transmitter calibration problems. The circumstances of this event have been evaluated and determined not to be LER reportable. LER 86-007 was issued during the period to report steam-generator tube inspection results as required by Technical i Specifications. No other LERs were issued during the period.
