The Model AB source assembly consists of a Model A source assembly and a Model AB capsule adapter. assembly. The adapter assembly is 5-3/16" long (131.8 mm). The purpose of the adapter is to allow the use of high strength Model A sources in Model B type exposure devices.until they have decayed to a lower strength when they can be safely used in Model A type exposure devices.

If the adapter assembly is reused, there is a possibility of excessive wear to the connectors on the adaptor. In addition, the female end of the adapter assembly is hidden from view while it is_being used in the camera. The manufacturer supplies a new adapter with each source assembly. This should encourage the user to return the old adapter to the manufacturer where it can be subjected to periodic inspection and removed from service if necessary.

SAFETY ANALYSIS

SUMMARY

As of the effective date of this document, the Model AB Radiography Source Assembly is no longer manufactured and distributed by Cumberland Research Corporation. Cumberland Research Corporation's materials license expired on July 31, 1977 and the company is no longer in business.

This device was approved for licensing purposes by the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) on March 1, 1968. There is insufficient information on file for this device to perform a safety evaluation. Therefore, this certificate is being reissued without further review based on the original review and approval issued by AEC.
