The CS-1000 (HP) source is used for well' logging'in custom designed logging tools, in industrial gauging devices, and other applications' requiring the source capsule to withstand temperatures from -57 to +595 C (-70 to 1,103 F), and pressures to 25,000 psia (172.38 MPa).

The radioactive material (ceramic or metallic pellets) is doubly encapsulated in 304 or 316 stainless steel. The inner capsule is cylindrical with 0.019" (0.48 mm) minimum wall thickness. The seal weld is performed using.a "TIG" welding technique. -The inner capsule is inserted into the outer capsule and a threaded end plug is inserted and "TIG" welded in position. Outer capsule wall thickness is maintained at 0.030" (0.76 mm) minimum. The completed source assembly is 1.485" ( 3 . 77 cm) 'long by 0. 3 44 "

(8.73 mm) diameter. External threads.on the end plug are 8-32 UNC, 0.070" (1.78 mm)'-long.

PROTOTYPE TESTING:

This source assembly has a classification of 46515 (well logging)

as described in ANSI publication N5.10-1968. The manufacturer L states that prototype sources have met the test criteria j specified in the ANSI document.
