SEALED SOURCE' TYPE: Gruging Source DESCRIPTION:
The RC-l'(HP) is a singly encapsulated _ source designed for general purpose use in gauging devices (back scatter, transmission, thickne'ss, etc.) Land because'of its design criteria,.may be used for high temperature (595 C [1,103"F]) and
. pressure (up to'25,000-psia (172.38 MPa)) applications such as well logging, refinery gauging,.etc.
The external dimensions and threads are identical to the AECL Model 'C-16 4 - ( SRC-3 ) '.
' Radioactive material is in the form of metallic pellets,' ceramic: pellets, or-resin particles.
The source capsule isTthreaded 12-24 NC.and is 0.589" (14.96 mm) long by 0.250"'(6~.35 mm) diameter. ;The' threaded portion (0.125"
~(3.18 mm])-has a: 0.007"'(0.18 mm). hole'to allow the source to be
-pinned in position.
The' capsule is-fabricated;from 304 or 316
-stainless steel.
Wall thickness.is maintained at 0.030" (0.76 mm) minimum.
The seal weld is performed by using a circumferential sideweld method' employing a "TIG" welding technique.
PROTOTYPE TESTING:
This source has a classification of 46515 (well logging) as described in-ANSI publication N5.10-1968. The manufacturer states that prototype' sources have met the test criteria specified in the ANSI document.
QUALITY ASSURANCE AND CONTROL:
Each. source assembly is visually inspected after fabrication, then' subjected to a contamination wipe leak test.
If the wipe test indicates contamination, then a hot water bubble test will be performed.

' SAFETY ANALYSIS-
SUMMARY
The Model RC-1 (HP) source is no longer manufactured or distributed'by; Gamma Industries,.Inc. and Gamma Industries, Inc.
,is no longer in: business.
Therefore, the registration certificate is"being converted'to an inactive registration certificate.
The source'was ori'tinally approved for licensing purposes by the Louisiana Division
't Radiation Control.
NRC attempted to obtain copies of all information submitted ^by the registrant in support
- of'the evaluation.
However, NRC could not locate all the i
information. -Therefore, no safety evaluation of the source was performed as.part of the conversion of the certificate to inactive status.
