  • Assembly DESCRIPTION:

Ohe Model'C-1-R source assembly is designed for use in the i

Cumberland Research Model_120' Exposure Device.

The third character in the source model designation indicates the' type of

~

connector.

The "R" ' indicates the radionist'or "T"

Bar connector.

The source is singly'encapsul'ted in 304 or.316' stainless steel.

a The weld may be performed by Using andend cap weld, or sideL circumferential weld method,~either of which are_ accomplished using a TIG (heliarc)'weldingDtechnique. ' Capsule wall thickness

'is maintained at 0.030":(0.76,mm) minimum.. The connector, ball Estop, and' source ~ capsule-are. crimped to_a 1/8" (3.18 mm) or 3/32" (2.38 mm). stainless steel cable. -Overall pigtail dimension tolerances'are held'to il/16" (11.59 mm).

~ PROTOTYPE TESTING:

- This~ source has a classification of.E32515 as described in ANSI publication NS.10-1968. The manufacturer states that prototype sources have met the. test criteria specified in the ANSI

-document'.

~

' QUALITY ASSURANCE AND CONTROL:

Each." pigtail"Tassembly is subjected to'a 100 lb. (45.36 kg) pull test priorito source insertion, and is subjected to a contamination wipe test after the material is sealed in the capsule.

If-the wipe test indicates contamination, then a hot water bubble test is performed.

LIMITATIONS AND/OR OTHER CONSIDERATIONS OF USE:

c

.. The source-shall be possessed and used by persons specifically licensed by'the NRC.or an Agreement State.

SAFETY ANALYSIS-

SUMMARY

The-Model C-1-R source.is no longer manufactured or distributed "by Gamma-Industries, Inc. and_ Gamma Industries, Inc. is no longer in business.

Therefore, tthe reg'istration certificate is being converted to'an inactive; registration certificate.

.=

The source was oricjinally = approved for licensing purposes by the

' Louisiana' Division of' Radiation Control.

NRC attempted to obtain copies of all information submitted by th'e registrant in support of'the evaluation..However, NRCccould not' locate'all-the information.

Therefore, no' safety evaluation.of the source was

~ performed as part of the-conversion'of the certificate to inactive status.
