SUBJECT:

MEDIA INTEREST IN DEMONSTRATION AT PLANT SITE

-About 20 demonstrators, some carrying placards indicating that they are protesting the today on a boun,lant's construction cost on utility rates, gathered about impact of the p 1:00 p.m.

(EDT) ty road leading to the Grand Gulf plant gate. Mississippi Power and Light Company (MP&L) has declared Grand Gulf in commercial operation effective today.

l MP&L and its contract security force have advised Region II that the peaceful demonstration has not affected traffic in and out of the plant, and has not affected the plant's opera-tion. The Claiborne County (Mississipoi) sheriff and some deputies are at the scene. MP&L has increased security at all site entrances.

Several media reporters are covering the demonstration, including at least one from a Little Rock, Arkansas, television station.

Region II, has informed the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Information Assessment Team, and the State of Mississippi.
