POTENTIAL CONSTRUCTION DEFICIENCY SILICON CONTROLLED RECTIFIERS - EDG HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION On May 3, 1984, a verbal report was made to Region I, Office of Inspection and Enforcement representative, Mr. E. C.
McCabe, advising of a potentially significant construction deficiency regarding Silicon Controlled Rectifiers (SCR's) that may have been incorrectly installed in our Emergency Diesel Generator Exciters. The following interim report is provided in accordance with 10CFR50.55(e).
The problem concerns four (4) generator potential trans-former and exciter control panels. The SCR's may have been damaged as a result of excessive mounting pressure. This potential problem is the subject of a Part 21 Report submitted to Region III by Basler Electric, the manufacturer of the exciters.
Our Architect / Engineer and Constructor, Bechtel, is coordinating with Basler Electric to have the affected equipment inspected and repaired if required. Bechtel has issued Nonconformance Report No. 4009 to document and control the hardware. Inspec-tion activities and any necessary repairs are scheduled for completion by August 24, 1984.
