This letter is written to clarify and supplement information contained in the above referenced notification made by Public Service Electric Gas Company to the USNRC concerning microswitches supplied by Comsip, Inc.
a deficiency in the qualified life The report refers to "...
calculation for microswitches manufactured by Comsip, Inc."
This statement is incorrect.
The subject PTW-5300 DC indicators supplied by
- Comsip, Inc.
are. manufactured by Microswitch Corporation and qualified for use in a harsh environment by NTS, Acton Division (formerly Acton Environmental) under Report Number 16923,- Rev.

Public Service Electric and Gas Company's report also does not include all of the pertinent application information.
It should be pointed out that indicators identified by Hope Creek are continuously energized at a voltage in excess of 10% over the units rated voltage.
The Microswitch PTW-5300 is rated at 120V AC/DC.
The supply voltage to these indicators at Hope Creek is in excess of 132VDC.
The temperature rise referenced in the evaluation section of the report was measured while operating the indicator at 132VDC.
The temperature is 44*F lower when operating.
the indicator at the rated voltage of 120VDC.
This has signi'ficant impact on the life of the indicator.
