Interim Report of 10CFR50.55(e) Item on Core Spray Pump Motor Damage (#66)

Dear Mr. Keppler:

This additional interim report on the Core Spray Pump Motor damage problem has been pmpared to provide you with the current status of this problem.

This item was originally reported to Mr. J. Eccklin of NRC Region III by Project Quality Assurance's Mr. E.L. Thompson, Acting Supervisor-Construc-tion Quality Assurance, on April 1, 1982.

This item deals with a gouge discovered in the shaft of a core spray pump motor. Because of the size and depth of the gouge, Edison Engineering decided that the possibility of internal damage existed, and the notor was shipped off-site to a General Electric repair shop.

The motor was returned to the site, on May 20, 1982. It was conditionally released pending receipt of required documentation as outlined in Purchase Order 059136, and subsequently installed by Edison Maintenance. Based on investigation to date, probable cause of the gouge is assigned to handling equipnent on site (fork lift) .

Another report on this item, either interim or final, is scheduled to be

sent to you on or before December 23, 1982. If you have questions concern-

. ing this matter, please contact Mr. G.M. Trahey, Assistant Director-Project Quality Assurance.

Very truly yours, j
