" Hydraulic Pipe Snubbers" This in Dotroit Edison's final report of Item 79, "Ilydraulic Pipo Snubbers."
Item 79 was originally reported as a potential deficiency on October 15, 1982, and was sub-noquently documented in references (2) and (3).
Doncription of Deficioney Detroit Edison was informed that contaminated hydraulic fluid was found in hydraulic pipo anubborn supplied by Power Piping Company to Crystal Rivor 3.
In responso, Detroit Edison inspected pipo anubbora nupplied by Power Piping Company for Formi 2 and analysod fluid from two of thoso pipo anubbors.
The fluid namploa woro found to be contami-nated with morallic particles and the nnubbor fluid rosor-voirn woro partially corroded.
Forty-Fivo llydraulic Snubborn woro dotormined to contain contaminated fluid.
Analynin of Gafnty Implicationn Contaminants in the hydraulic fluid could affect oporation of tho anubborn.

On November 1,1982, all af fected hydraulic pipe snub-bars were returned to Power Piping for refurbishing.
The last shipment was received back at Fermi 2 on March 5, 1983.
Detroit Edison monitored the refurbish-ment process to assure acceptable screen samples were obtained.
O Hydraulic pipe snubbers were subsequently installed and accepted by Detroit Edison.
O Maintenance procedures have been prepared to assure that the hydraulic pipe snubbers are inspected and maintained operable in accordance with technical specifications and design requirements.
