SIGNIFICANT CONSTRUCTION DEFICIENCY DIESEL GENERATOR BOLT TORQUING llOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION On May 14, 1982, a verbal report was made to Region I, Office of Inspection and Enforcement representative, Mr. R.

Keimig, advising of a potential significant construction deficiency concerning the torque values of stud to nut com-binations securing the shaft spider assembly in one diesel generator received at ilope Creek.

The following information is submitted as an interim report in accordance with the requirements of 10CFR50.55(e).

Beloit Power Systems, subsupplier to Colt Industries, has notified the NRC of a bolt torquing problem on diesel gen-erators supplied to Colt Industries. Since the condition was detected on the second of four generators being fabricated for flope Creek, the condition of the generator previously shipped to the site is indeterminate (S/N 700510Rl). The stud / nut combination holding the BPS generator spider to the Colt generator shaft on BPS generator S/N 750010R2 was found to be under torqued.

Bechtel Power Corporation, PSE&G's constructor at the flope Creek site, has requested a report from Colt Industries which describes the corrective actions to be taken to ensure correct torque on the stud / nut combinations for the three remaining diesel generators at the manufacturer's location.

A Bechtel Supplier Quality Representative will be on hand to witness the torquing operation.
