Butcher, of your office, of a Potentially Reportable Deficia- ?RD) at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) construction site. The d. urcy concerns "O" Ring seals on Rosemount Transmitters which do not provide a seal that conforms with the requirements of NUREG-0588 for Class IE equipment located inside containment.

As stated in AECM-82/223, we have determined that this deficiency is reportable under both 10CFR50.55(e) and 10CFR21 for Mississippi Power and Light Company for Unit 1. A Final Report for Unit I was provided in AECM-82/223.

No Rosemount Transmitters have been installed in Unit 2, therefore the deficiency is not reportable for Unit 2. However, actions are being taken to prevent the deficiency from recurring. The Performance Specification which governs the application of lubricants onto transmitter threads will be revised to explicit:y identify approved lubricants for the "O" rings and for the ins t rument threads for electrical / electronic instruments.
