1 STATUS REPORT NO. I FOR PRD-80/54 Description l Seismic HVAC hangers at the Grand Culf Nuclear Station (GCSS) were

, found to have ince:plete welds at member connection points. Further investigation revealed missing braces, undersized support members, and hangers that were not welded to the duct. Because of this con-dition, it is possible that the hangers would not perform their in-tended safety function during a SSE.

Apprcach to Resolution of the Deficiency, j This defici

ncy was caused by a contractor who did not follow design drawings. This contractor left the construction site before the de-i' ficiency was identified. MPSL and the constructor are investigating to determine the extent of the deficiency. The criteria described in 2egulatory Guide 1.29 is beinc considered in this investi2ation.

Reportability under 10C7R50.55(e) and 10C7R21 will be determined frca the investigaticn findings. The constructor will perform the necessary I action to correct the noncenforming hangers. These actions tre bein; perforned under 3echtel quality Acticn Request (QAR) F-223.

j Status of Preposed Resolution The investigation to determine the extent of this deficiency is being cenducted.

Reason for Final Report Delay Engineering analysis is ineceplete.
