SUBJECI: Grand Gulf Nulear Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-416/417 File 0260/15525/15526 PRD-80/35, Status Report #1, Standby Diesel Generator Jacket Water Cooler Thermostatic Valve Fracture AECM-80/166 On June 26, 1980, Mississippi Power & Light notified Mr. M.
Hunt of your office of a Potentially Reportable Deficiency (PRD) concerning the Standby Diesel Generator. The deficiency was a fractured valve body on the Jacket Water Thermostatic Valve.
Our investigation has not bec.n completed. All Jacket Water Ther=ostatic Valves for Units I and II have been subjected to magnetic particle examination. An additional Unit I valve was found to have a hairline linear indication. The Unit II valves were determined to be satisfactory. ,
Our Architect / Engineer is in contact with the diesel generator supplier to determine reportability, exact cause, and corrective actions. We expect to determine reportability and submit a final report by November VJ, 1980.
