Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-416/417 File 0260/15525/15526 PRD-79/07, Status Report #5, Inadequate Circuit Separation AECM-80/102

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

On March 23, 1979, Mississippi Power & Light notified Mr. J. K. Rausch of your office of a Potentis11y Reportable Deficiency (PRD) at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) construction site. The deficiency concerns circuit separation deficiencies associated with Unit 1;and 2 Power Generation Control Complexes (PGCC) .

Originally eur evaluation concentrated on the compliance with Regulatcry Guide 1.75 and IL.E Standard 384 of wi :ng terminating on common devices in the PGCC of Unit 2. Corrective actions associated with obvious deficiencies at these common devices have been accomplished. The investigation into the extent of the common device deficiency is complete. The analysis of discre-pancies noted required certain qualification testing, as per IEEE Standard 384.

The results of this testing are being analyzed at this time. Further corrective actions are contingent on the analysis of these results. With regard to discrepancies noted thus far, our evaluation has identified no items that constitute adverse effects on plant safety. The evaluation of safety implica-tA as, however, is still in progress.

. General Electric supplied PGCC components and control room panels and is not limited exclusively to that wiring terminating on common devices. This expanded scope applies to both units at GGNS.

Our current schedule for completing the analysis of the expanded investiga-tion call for the submittal of our final report on this deficiency to be no later than December 1, 1980.
