Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-416/417 File 0272/15515/15526 PRD-80/04, Status Report No. 2, Effects of Loss of Site Power on Rod Position Indication and Neutron Monitoring AECM-80/105 Background information on this Potentially Reportable Deficiency (PRD) was provided in our first status report, AECM-80/82, dated April 3, 1980.

This deficiency pertains to the Loss of Site Power (LOSP) accident and its att e h nt effects on Rod Position Information System (RPIS) and Neutron Monitoring System (NMS).

This deficiency is still under investigation. Our determination on reportability, due this date, will be delayed. This delay is due to the complex nature of this issue and its relationship to other investigations associated with NRC IE Bulletin No. 79-27, " Loss of Non-Class 1E Instrumentation and Control Power System Bus During Operation," and NRC Regulatory Guide 1.97,

" Instrumentation for Light-Water-Cooled Nuclear Power Plants to Assess Plant Conditions During and Following an Accident."

i We intend to provile a determination on reportability and final report on PRD-80/04 by July 23, 1980.
