SUBJECT:

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-416/417 File 0260/0498/15525 Interim Report for Potential Reportable Deficiency No. 79-06 as Defined in 10 CFR 50.55(e)

AECM-79/120 On March 2, 1979, Mr. J. K. Rausch of your office was notified of a potential reportable deficiency at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station con-struction site concerning the failure of a Type L2 Auxiliary Switch As-sembly installed in the 4.16 KV switchgear.

The failed switch assembly and a switch assembly with a crack in the end molding were returned to the equipment supplier, Gould Electric Systems Group, for analysis. The equipment supplier's analysis for Unit I switch-gear and our examination of the Unit 2 switchgear have not been completed.

We now estimate that the question of reportability will be resolved by February 28, 1980.

Yours truly,
